The site was built to solve a simple problem: finding school term dates in the UK is harder than it should be. Each of England's 152 local authorities publishes its own term dates calendar, often in different formats and in different places. School Term Dates and Holidays brings all of this information together in one place, in a consistent format, for free.
What the site covers
For every council and local authority, the site provides:
- Start and end dates for all three school terms — autumn, spring and summer
- Dates for all six school holiday periods — autumn half term, Christmas, spring half term, Easter, summer half term and summer holiday
- Break-up dates and return dates for every holiday period
- A live countdown to the next school holiday
- A downloadable .ics calendar file for Google Calendar, Apple Calendar and Outlook
- A directory of all state-funded schools in the council area
For every state-funded school in England, the site provides an individual school page showing the same term dates and holiday information as the council page, along with the school's phase, postcode, and a link to the school's own website.

Term dates are sourced directly from official published sources for each nation:
- England — individual local authority published term dates calendars, sourced from each council's website
- Wales — Welsh Government approved and published term dates, shared across the 22 local authorities
- Scotland — individual council published term dates calendars
- Northern Ireland — Department of Education Northern Ireland centrally published school holiday dates
- School data — Department for Education Get Information About Schools (GIAS) register, January 1970
Data accuracy and updates
